Sport Awards Criteria
The Procedure For Nomination of Scroll Awards
- Coach or team manager lists all team members
- Forms are completed assessing the sportsperson on their commitment to the team, achievements during the season and their sportsmanship
- All 1st team players who have played or were selected for over 75% of games for that season are eligible for a Merit award provided sportsmanship and commitment were of a high level
- Team players whose skills raise them above the rest of the team can be nominated for a Colours award at the discretion of the coach/manager
- Team players who are selected for an U18 provincial side in the sport are eligible for an Honours award
- These awards qualify pupils to purchase a badge at the clothing store for their blazer
- All 1st team players who have played 50% of the seasons matches are awarded a 1st team certificate - this allows them to purchase a 1st team tie
- All decisions are discussed and ratified by the Sports Awards Committee that meets at the end of each season
- Criteria may be adapted at the discretion of the Sports Awards Committee

Coach's Certificate - All Sports up ^
Complete the form below by circulating through all the coaches at every age group.
Each coach is to do the following:
- Identify pupils who fulfil all the criteria listed below
- Write in a short dedication for the certificate
Criteria are:
- Not able to achieve a scroll award - normally junior teams or B-teams, but still worthy of reward
- Attendance = 80%+
- Attitude = exemplary
- Effort = involved fully
- Sportsmanship = example to team and the rest of EHS in dress and bearing recognition.
Example of nomination:
- "Jonathan XXX"
- Short citation - to be printed below the recipients name on certificate:
.......... in recognition of superb performance & dedication as (captain, motivator, leader, role model etc) to ........... this season.
Sportswoman and Sportsman of The Year up ^
Criteria
- Person who has best sporting record of the year.
- Must have reached a high level of achievement.
- If this involves a non-school sport then the nominee must also participate in a league sport at school.
- Must show good sportsmanship.
- Approach grade 10 - 12 and staff for nominations 3rd last week of term 3 (assembly).
- Nominations to include the competitive school sport and the outside sport the pupil is involved in, the level of achievement, a short motivation for choosing them and the name of the nominator and a seconder.
- Nominations must be completed by the end of that week.
- Collect all nominations and call pupils and ask them to draw up a concise CV on their sporting achievements over the last few years.
- Head of Sport looks through nominations with Headmaster if need be and a ranking is established.
- Sports Awards Committee sits down and reviews CVs' and votes and determines most appropriate winner.
- Winners are announced at ARE and the short citation is read again.
Most Promising Junior Sports Player
- Follows similar format to sportsman/woman awards - remember must be involved in school sport at a competitive level.
- Nominations are asked for from staff.
- Decision made by Sports Awards Committee.
- Nominees called in and asked to prepare a concise CV / citation on their sports career.
- Award made at JCE when a short CV / citation is read.
Qualifications Required For Individual Sports:
Cross Country Awards Criteria up ^
Merit Award
- For participation as a 1st team member and completing your races in the top 40% of your age group
- Attend 75% of official outings (zonal or club races) Good behaviour at practices & events
Colours Award
- For a high level of performance as a 1st team member and completing your races in the top 30% of your age group
- Attend 75% of official outings (zonal or club races)
- Good behaviour at practices & events
- Qualify to represent the zonal team
Honours Award
- For a superior level of performance as a 1st team member and completing your races in the top 30% of your age group
- Attend 75% of official outings (zonal or club races)
- Good behaviour at practices & events
- Qualified for the WP team
Cycling Awards Criteria up ^
Merit Award
- Argus and 5 other approved PPA races of 80km or more
- Argus winners time + 90min
Colours Award
- Argus and 5 other approved PPA races of 80km or more
- Argus winners time + 45min
Honours Award
- Argus and 5 other approved PPA races of 80km or more
- Argus winners time + 20min
- Provincial representation at U18 level
Golf up ^
Merit Award
- For participation as a 1st team member
- Attend 75% of official games
- Good behaviour at practices and events
Colours Award
- For a high level of performance at 1st team level
- Attend 75% of official games
- Good behaviour at practices and events
- Must have an average of 40 - 42 strokes for all matches played
Honours Award
- For a superior level of performance at 1st team level Attend 75% of official games
- Good behaviour at practices and events
- Must have an average of less than 40 strokes for all matches played or provincial representation
Road Running up ^
Merit Award
- For participation as a 1st team member
- Attend 75% of official outings (time trials and road races)
- Good behaviour at practices and events
- Sub-minimum times for 10km:
- Boys = 52:30
- Girls = 60:00
Colours Award
- For a high level of performance at 1st team level
- Attend 75% of official outings (time trails and road races)
- Good behaviour at practices and events
- Sub-minimum times for 10km:
- Boys = 42:30
- Girls = 47:30
Honours Award
- For a superior level of performance at 1st team level or provincial representation
- Attend 75% of official outings (time trails and road races)
- Good behaviour at practices and events
- Sub-minimum times for 10km:
- Boys = 33:20
- Girls = 40:00
