Congratulations to Carmen Addinall, Samantha Law, Jessica da Graca, Nicole Scheepers and Jason Laubscher for winning the lucky draw for having 100% attendance in term 1. It is encouraging to note the decline in the number of absences which proves that many pupils are happy at EHS and that it is a "healthy environment"!

Thank you to Ratanga Junction for sponsoring each pupil with a Ratanga Wild Side Ride ticket. We trust that no-one was sick afterwards! We appreciate your involvement in EHS.

The Edgemead High School Golf Day took place at the Parow Golf Club on Friday, 13 February 2009. The main reason for having this golf day was to raise funds for the school (The official amount of money raised will be announced as soon as possible).

We were blessed with amazing weather and everybody participating in the event really enjoyed themselves. The wind picked up in the afternoon and messed up some of the scores but the leader board was quite congested after 18 holes.

Apart from the Golf, the players were further tested by our double or nothing challenge on the 8th and 16th holes. We would like to thank all the players for taking up the challenge and donating so generously at these holes. Raffle tickets were sold and prizes awarded for the closest to the pin on the 16th hole and longest drive on the 18th hole.

After a hot day in the sun everybody sat back and enjoyed a three course meal and the prize giving ceremony. The prizes were handed over by Mr. Lawrence and went to:

  • 1st Prize: Vanessa vd Walt, Hillary, Joan, and Martin
  • 2nd Prize: M. Carr, G. Reid, S. Rowland, S. Swinburne
  • 3rd Prize: G. Havenga, M. Sterrenberg, P. Stassen, A. September
Congratulations to them and a very big thank you to everybody that played in the Golf Day.

We would like to thank all the parents and businesses that contributed in the form of prizes or sponsorships. Without them this day would not have been such a great success.

Feb 2009: We Have Our Very Own, Brand New Buses!
ManyThanks.jpg - click to enlarge to 640x480 TwoBuses.jpg - click to enlarge to 640x279

A dream that belonged to many at EHS became a reality when they took possession of two school buses. This was due to a partnership brokered with Garden Cities where on a basis of 'rand for rand' or in this case 'bus for bus', they would sponsor a bus if the school would buy a bus. Through some vigorous fund raising this was achieved.

The buses will help to resolve the transport problem as at present the school is using a transport company. Hopefully a time will come when the school will have a fleet of buses which can meet the demands of EHS.

Mr Matthews, of Garden Cities, stated that he was pleased that they could give back to the community which they built. It is also fitting that this has happened in the year in which Garden Cities Turns 90! Garden Cities is a community orientated concern that believes that the community school plays an integral part in the existence of the community and that it was important to support the local school.

It was pleasing to note that McCarthy Toyota N1 City also joined the partnership by providing the buses at a very competitive price which made it possible for the school to purchase its bus.

The only missing pieces to this happy scenario is a trailer for each bus. So, if there is any company or individual that would like to sponsor a trailer to the school, please contact the Principal, Mr Lawrence on (021) 558 1132
